Recommendations

For some reason, people keep asking me for recommendations on Music, Books, Software, and YouTube channels. So I decided to make this page where I will list some of the things, I recommend. However, just so you know it is far from an exhaustive list.

Books

Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart, is a book about what plants are being turned into alcohol and some of the historical aspects about a given plant. However, Stewart doesn’t stop there. She also includes information about mixers for cocktails and even recipes. For anyone interested in alcohol and the origins of the liquids we consume as it, this book is a must.

Software

When it comes to software I am very particular about certain things, such as the tool should adapt to me, not I to it. This is often reflected in my choice of software, just carry that in mind when you see what I recommend.

Linux Distributions

Fedora is by far the Linux distribution I have been most happy with. It allows me to have fuzz free daily driver experience and I honestly love how it marries leading edge and stability. Furthermore, I am sucker for Gnome and I am really happy with how they bring a vanilla version to the table that just feel polished. Unlike other distributions that put their own spin on Gnome.

Editors / IDEs

GNU Emacs is my editor of choice for most things. I like how it adapts to me and I have honestly been using it for so long that it feels weird when its keybindings does not work in other programs. I like how you can code it up yourself and change it using elisp or utilise other peoples carefully crafted plugins.

neovim is a text editor that is fully terminal based, although you can get a GUI wrapper if you are insane. Whilst Emacs is my drug of choice most of the time, there are certain times where I am on a server without Emacs but where either Vim or neovim is installed. Both editors are very powerful, but after playing around with both I prefer neovim.

YouTube Channels

Where I can I will link not directly to the YouTube channel but rather the direct website of the project.

SortedFood, is a YouTube channel that is about food. I have followed them for a long time and through different changes in the channel. I love their perspective and that they speak up for sustainability. Now a days they are not so focused actual recipes but rather the show. But I still find it fun, and I do often go back and watch older videos.
